At this time of year we usually run 3 or 4 groups on a Saturday morning departing 07:00 at the Cenotaph in the Old Town and finishing at Costa Coffee in the New Town.
If you are joining us for the first time we will ask you to join a spacific group depending on experience. Routes are typically 35-60 miles long and will always include a number of hills as they are unavoidable living in the Chilterns. Do take this into account when comparing your average ride speed with those of our various groups. Hills will typically decrease your average speed by 1mph for every 1000ft of climbing and more for longer rides.
Summer Saturday's sees the introduction of rides aimed specificay at new, returning or inexperienced riders. These rides start at 08:00 and will typically be around 15-20 miles in length.
Sunday rides are at 08:00 and start and finish at the Cenotaph. They are intedned to be a little shorter but will follow a simialr format to our Saturday rides.
We won't leave you behind as this is a social group and if you do drop off the back for whatever reason someone will come back and find you. However, if you are in one of the faster groups and you are strugglig to keep up we may ask you to drop back and wait for the next group to arrive. Please do not be offended if we ask you to do this as it will make your ride much more enjoyable. Routes normally allow for an exit if you need to be home earlier.
For those of you addicted to Strava this shows the total number of rides and distance covered by those that have joined the club on Strava itself.
Details of the next club ride will be published on a weekly basis as well as a library of our favourite rides complete with GPX files for uploading to your GPS device, Google Earth or other viewing tools.
Ride details are normally updated on Thursday each week but if not rides will still take place as scheduled below.
Saturday 23rd September 07:00 The Cenotaph.
Please note that the start time for the Saturday ride has moved to 07:00 and will stay that way until the clocks change.. We normally run 3-4 pace groups over 2-3 different distances. See below for details.
Sunday 24th September 08:00 The Cenotaph.
The ride will be run at a speed to suit all. If the group is large enough we will split it on the day.
'Summer' Saturday 08:00 (New and returning riders)
This will typically be a route of around 15-20 miles and as flat as we can make it living in the Chilterns. Meet at the Cenotaph.
The GPX files for each route can be found here with a brief description of them below. The file can be viewed on www.bikehike.co.uk or copied straight to your chosen device. If using a Garmin Edge place the file in the \Garmin\Newfiles folder and the route will then appear under courses on your Garmin. Make sure you have route recalculation switched off.
All are welcome to join our various rides but as our insurance policy limits the number of guests on any one ride please contact the club first (see the information page for contact details) before coming along just to make certain it is ok. We look forward to seeing you next weekend.
We are a road cycling club riding road bikes with dropped handlebars. We have nothing against any other type of bike, hybrids or mountain bikes but they are much slower for the same amount of effort. If you do have one of these bikes please get in touch and we will do our best to help.
